Dentsville Dixie Boys Baseball Specific Rules

Last reviewed 2/2/2012

1. A time limit of 2 hours per game is in effect at all parks. For time limit purposes, a new inning begins exactly at the time the 3rd out is made for the home team. In addition to the above time limit, the 10 run rule in the Dixie Boys Rule Book will also apply. The starting time of each game will be announced by the umpire and noted in the official scorebook before each game begins.

2. To start each extra inning of a game which is tied at the completion of regulation play or time-limit, the following procedure will be used, with all other game rules applying:

a. There will be one out to start the offensive portion of the visiting team's extra inning. The visiting team will place the last player who completed his/her at bat during previous inning as a runner at second base. The visiting team will continue batting in order in the line up with a 1 ball and 1 strike count on the first batter in the inning. All subsequent batters in the inning will begin with a no ball and no strike count until the third out is recorded ending the half inning. The home team then follows the same process with their at bat.

b. Continue with this procedure until a winner is decided or two innings have been played. After 2 extra innings a tie game will remain a tie, unless deemed necessary to complete by the League VP.

3. For each game played both coaches will record pitcher innings in the pressbox. Both coaches will provide on the back of the line-up card, names and innings pitched for each player who has pitched in previous games game in that week.

4. LOCAL LEAGUE RULE: (add to 8.94, of 2012 Rule Book) If a pitcher pitches in four (4) or more innings in the same game, he shall not be allowed to pitch in the next game played by his team in the same calendar week.

5. Any game, which is called for rain, curfew, or other reasons before it becomes a regulation game, will be resumed from the point of termination.

6. If a player removes his batting helmet before he enters the dugout, he will be warned first and then be ejected from the game for the second offense.

7. If a batter comes to bat and steps into the batter’s box with his shirt tail hanging out, the umpire shall call a strike on the batter and then have the player tuck in the shirt.

8. No head first slide is permitted when advancing to a base. Penalty – runner is called out.

9. At such time as there are 2 outs in the inning, the team at bat MAY use a courtesy runner for the catcher. The courtesy runner shall be a player who is not presently in the offensive lineup. In the event the team at bat only has 9 players, the player who made the prior out in the inning may run.

10. Local League Option: "FREE SUBSTITUTION ON DEFENSE"

a. With the exception of the pitcher, players may enter the game ONLY at the beginning of each team’s defensive inning except for injury or ejection. A pitcher being replaced by a player from another defensive position or from the dugout/bullpen must leave the mound, but may remain in the game at another defensive position.
