Dentsville Youth Baseball/Softball League

General Rules of Play - 2008 Season

The following general rules of play have been adopted by the Dentsville Youth Baseball/Softball League for the regular season and league tournaments.  These general rules of play are league wide and apply to every age division.

1.   There will be a time limit on games and no new inning will begin after the time limit.  The time limits are:

(A)  Coaches Pitch Softball and Small Fry Softball - 1 Hour, 15 Minutes

(B)  Mite Softball and Jr. / Sr. Softball - 1 Hour, 30 Minutes

(C)  Coaches Pitch Baseball and Dixie Youth Minors - 1 Hr, 45 Minutes

(D)  Dixie Youth O-Zone and Dixie Boys - 2 Hours

(E)  Dixie Majors / Dixie Pre-majors - 2 Hours, 15 Minutes

2.   There will be a 15 minute grace period to field a team.  The grace period for the 1st game begins at the official time of the game.  The grace period for the second and all subsequent games will begin when the umpire announces “play ball” or if the previous game ended earlier than 15 minutes prior to the regular scheduled time, then the grace period will begin at the official time of the game.  When the umpire says “Game Time”, the clock for the game starts.

3.   If no official scorekeeper is present, the home team scorebook will be official.

4.   Coaches will submit line-up cards to the opposing coach ten minutes prior to the game time.  Line-up cards must list all starting players in the order in which they will bat, the jersey numbers and positions.  Line-up cards must also list all eligible substitutes, jersey numbers, and all players who are absent, ill, injured, or who are not playing for disciplinary reasons.

5.  The umpire will announce the official starting time of the game to the official scorekeeper.  If it is not listed, no valid protest can be made concerning time limits.

6.   Any game, which is called for rain, curfew, or other reason before it is a regulation game, will be resumed from the point of termination.

7.   Regulation tie games, which are called for rain, curfew, or other reasons, will be resumed from the point of termination.  Curfew is at 11 pm for all games except in Dixie Majors where there will be no curfew.

8.   If a game is called and is to be resumed at a later date, the umpire will mark both scorebooks to verify the exact point of termination.

9.  In an effort to equalize player participation; all leagues when on offense will bat through the entire lineup present at each game, in accordance with the rules of baseball/softball for that league.  In addition, when on defense, FREE SUBSTITION will be allowed with no player playing in more than 2 more innings than any other teammate during any particular game.  (i.e.; if Player ‘A’ plays 6 innings, all other teammates MUST play at least 4 innings in that game.)  Violation of this rule may be grounds for removal of the coach from coaching all stars and/or coaching in the league.

10. Every player in Dixie Youth and Coaches Pitch is required to start at least one third of the scheduled games he/she is present at the start of the game.  Violation of this rule may be grounds for removal of the coach from coaching all stars and/or coaching in the league.

11.  All teams and individuals associated with the league (players, coaches, parents, guardians) shall rake the mound, home plate/batter’s box area and around the bases after each use of the field.
